The Racketeer

A newsletter?

TO CALL The Racketeer a newsletter would be like calling Buckingham Palace a shed. In a field not known for its literary greatness the Racketeer shines like a beacon of excellence in the gloom of half-witted, semi-literate drivel that passes for tennis journalism and literature.

Founded in 1993 and edited by Andy Lusis, the Racketeer has reported on club events, charted the progress of our teams and provided news and entertainment for all club members. There have been several articles on the club's history, including Chris Weir's monumental 13-part opus. Frank Raistrick, well known in local tennis circles, entertained readers with his column of observations and reminiscences, 'Lethal Spin', in issues 37-52. Sadly, he died in April 2004 after a long illness.

Selected items from the literary treasure trove formed by back issues of the Racketeer are know available on the club website. Many club members have contributed, some after more arm twisting than others. There are lists of the contents by category and author. More items from old and new issues will be added in due course.
