Mapperley Park Tennis Club

Play Compete Enjoy

Looking for a tennis club in Nottingham?

Look no further, Mapperley Park is a great place to play tennis. We always welcome new members.

Set among charming tree-lined streets in the Mapperley Park conservation area, our club offers a quiet haven for casual and competitive play. Before you join, why not try out the club on our legendary Club Night (Wednesday), or at one of the practice sessions. There is a court booking system for members.

We have group coaching for juniors and adults. For beginners, we recommend individual coaching, though this is available for players of any ability wishing to improve their game. We offer team play in the Notts LTA leagues and other activities. Our long-running newsletter, The Racketeer, keeps members informed and entertained. For up-to-date reports and info see our Facebook page.

Our club

We have four hard courts, all with floodlights, which drain quickly after rain and are used all through the year. There is a practice wall, which is next to a mini court, the net of which can be removed when using the wall. Our clubhouse has changing rooms, a kitchen area, and comfortable seating, with an adjacent patio area.

MPTC was formed in 1923. It is owned by the members and run by an elected committee of volunteers. We are affiliated to the Notts Lawn Tennis Association. Documents detailing our policies on safeguarding, whistleblowing, diversity and inclusion, and data protection are available here.

ACTIVITIES

COACHING*

It is impossible to count the number of Wimbledon champions inspired by Simon McBride, who leads group coaching on Monday evenings for juniors and adults, and Wednesdays for juniors. He also runs our school 'holiday camps'. Simon and Rachel Kirk can give your game a boost with individual coaching.

TEAM PLAY

We have men's, women's and mixed teams in the Notts Leagues, summer and winter. Practice nights are Tuesday for women and Thursday for men.

SOCIAL PLAY

On Wednesdays we have our Club Night, where all members are welcome, and we offer potential members a free session. Our Sunday morning tennis is relaxed and informal.

EVENTS

Our three main annual events are President's Evening in June, Finals Day, with a barbecue*, in September, and our annual dinner and trophy presentation* in November.

CARDIO TENNIS*

Ace motivator Rachel Kirk can help you get in shape with a high energy fitness routine, which combines the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise, providing a full body, calorie-burning, aerobic workout.

PICKLEBALL*

Described as a cross between tennis and table tennis, pickleball is a recent addition to the club's activities. Rachel leads weekly sessions on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

OUR COACHES

Simon

Simon McBride

I have been teaching tennis for 36 years and love what I do and learn more every year. I specialise in group coaching from juniors to adults and like nothing more than seeing a group of students enjoying and progressing each week. My philosophy is always to bring something new to each lesson, keep it simple and energetic and progressive. I also love to work on a one to one basis, working more intensively to improve any player.

Qualifications: PTR Academy Pro, PTR Pro rated, LTA Level 3.

Rachel

Rachel Kirk

I love drawing on my own tennis experience having played at county level, and using this in my 1-2-1 private lessons. I enjoy coaching any level and feel a strength of mine is putting people at ease, and passing on my enthusiasm for tennis. There’s nothing better than seeing my students' improvement. I also run a group cardio tennis session twice weekly which involves lots of tennis combined with cardio fitness. I am a qualified Pickleball coach and run a weekly group session which is gaining real popularity.

Qualifications: PTR Adult Development Instructor, PTR 10 and Under Professional, LTA accredited, Professional Pickleball coach.
